For example, there’s a shoulder bash that’s only really used on one shielded enemy type, and an uppercut that’s primarily just used to hit the few enemies that fly. Rather than changing the way you approach a fight to keep things fresh, the techniques you unlock are more designed around giving you a way to deal with a specific new enemy type. That’s an alright base, but none of the abilities that you gain as you progress ever make engaging with combat any more fun. There are some really great animations, hits are impactful, and the way enemies die is super satisfying to look at – but the big problem is that, at the outset, there really isn’t much to your arsenal of moves outside of a basic three-hit sword combo, close-range shotgun blast, and powerful beam attack. They tie together the digital and physical worlds in a way that’s rather clever.hack//slashĪs far as combat goes, Narita Boy looks more impressive than it actually feels to play. What’s especially neat about them is the way they help bring better understanding to the digital world that you’re playing through. Each time I unlocked one it felt like a gift I couldn’t wait to unwrap: these bite-sized story sequences are easily the highpoint of Narita Boy as a whole, as Lionel’s story is an emotional one to watch unfold, with wonderful music box-like tunes adeptly setting the tone. The real meat of it is communicated as you unlock Lionel’s memories and play through 13 really well-done flashback sequences that chronicle his life all the way from childhood to the present. However, that is a huge oversimplification of Narita Boy’s hard-to-follow overarching plot, which is bogged down with technical jargon and boring exposition dumps.įortunately though, that setup is not the main attraction of Narita Boy’s story. The boy assumes the role of the titular hero, “Narita Boy,” and sets out on an adventure to restore Lionel’s memories, defeat HIM, and save the digital world. Head to the far right of the room and pick up the second piece of the floppy disk. You play as a young boy who suddenly gets dragged into a digital world after its creator, a genius hardware and software developer named Lionel Pearl, gets his memories stolen by a malicious program known as HIM. If you do it correctly, you’ll hear a friendly chime and be transported to the hidden room. Using the Oasis’ quantum mediator, you need to plug in the code you’ve scrounged up from the hidden locations. Where is Taiyo’s hidden room? Screenshot by Gamepur Now that you have all three, it’s time to head to Taiyo’s hidden room. Just head to the very far left, and you’ll see the yellow symbol sitting just above the Creator. The last code is also sitting in the Oasis. Finding the yellow code Screenshot by Gamepur As you can see in the screenshot above, this one is hiding in plain sight. You might notice them if you’re paying close attention while doing the main quest. Finding the blue code Screenshot by Gamepurīoth the blue and yellow codes are located inside the Oasis. There, you’ll find the first part of the code and unlock a new achievement while you’re at it. If done correctly, you should be in the room. To get there, you need to stand on the box we’re on in the screenshot above and then do an uppercut attack into an air dash. In the room where you acquire the uppercut ability, there’s a hidden area to the left. Finding the red code Screenshot by Gamepur So, if you need some help, check out our guide below. Unlike most of the quantum mediator puzzles to this point, this one requires quite a bit of hunting. You need five of those bad boys to reconstruct the Creator’s first memory, so it’s important to seek this out. Taiyo also tells you that they have hidden the second floppy disk backup inside of their house. After talking to them, the two of you will fuse, which gives you the power to use Taiyo’s beam power to fight off enemies. When you enter the desert simulation area of Narita Boy, you’ll meet a new friend named Taiyo.

(Fun fact: “deponie” means “landfill” in German.) The 2D hand-drawn aesthetic is more refined than in last year’s Edna & Harvey: The Breakout, but equally colorful and distinctive, featuring a number of idiosyncratic supporting characters who help bring Deponia to life. The steampunk cartoon art style depicts a gleefully oddball world made up of the garbage dropped from above. But when other, questionably trustworthy Elysians enter into the mix, a larger plot begins to show itself-larger than this one game can address, in fact, as Deponia is just the first installment of a planned trilogy.įrom the artwork to the people to the humor, everything in Deponia is just a bit off, and for the most part it works. With this finally achieved, he’s free to tout the still incapacitated princess across the rubbish-strewn countryside to another possible escape route. First Rufus must convince the townsfolk to release the unconscious Goal to his custody, a deceptively complicated task riddled with puzzle-solving that ends up taking more than half the game. Rufus sees her as his ticket out of here (and also hopes to make her his new girlfriend), but he’s not the only Deponian with his sights set on the pretty damsel in distress. This early attempt ends with Rufus falling back to the surface with a pretty Elysian princess, Goal, in tow. What could go wrong?Įverything, of course, and very quickly. The game opens with Rufus prepping his latest escape attempt, which involves lighting a parcel of dynamite to shoot a makeshift escape pod into the sky at the very moment an orbiting Elysian vessel flies past. Problem is, no one has ever managed to get there. His only escape option is Elysium, a utopia floating far above. It may have some rough edges, but this unflinchingly traditional point-and-click adventure from Daedalic Entertainment has a lot to like-garbage and all.ĭeponia’s protagonist is a wanderlust named Rufus, a young man who’s singularly fixated on getting off his junk-filled planet as soon as humanly possible. The puzzles… well, actually, those aren’t half bad. The items you stuff in your pockets are trash. No, wait, that’s a compliment! At least, it’s a statement of fact, as this game takes place, quite literally, on a trash heap. I’ve played some trashy adventures in my day, but none quite as trashy as Deponia. That’s what love, the greatest healer, is all about: To forgive and, sometimes, to forget. As a good human being, I have forgiven my daughter. The only thing they want from the society is love and respect. They are selfless and want to give back to the society. Noble laureate Rabindranath Tagore had once said, “Every child comes with a message that God is still not discouraged of man.” God is not discouraged as humanity does exist and so do good human beings, who tell us the difference between right and wrong and protect us from adversity. The young generation has enjoyed all the comforts of life without being part of the real struggle. I often feel we are the last generation who are respectful towards our parents and elders. Being apologetic is also a part of that process. If you love someone, you have got to respect that person. To me, love and respect are parts of the same coin. I was taught to be disciplined, talking to elders with respect and steering clear of “taboo” topics. I was shy, hesitant and never knew how my mother would react. Growing up as a teenager, there were several questions that I wanted to ask my mother, but I didn’t have the courage to ask. It is often said that you should practice what you preach. But I never got an answer whether a child could be so rude and without proper manners while addressing her parent, especially to a mother. She said that a parent needed to behave in a certain manner. I asked her the reason for speaking to me the way she did. I went back to my daughter and looked at her. These were some of reasons for me leaving my well-paying job. An unconventional, selfless and non-judgemental love. They need their mother: motherhood, after all, is a symbol of love. I need to inculcate a sense of right and wrong into them. They need to be carefully oriented and trained. I love them more than myself: It was the sane when I was professionally engaged and even now when I am a “homemaker”. I left my prestigious job to look after my kids as they mean everything to me. Since there was only one “earning” member in the family now, I had to say goodbye to my permanent help. I got busy in doing most of the chores by myself as I loved my kids. Initially, it was difficult as I had been used to giving instructions to my help on phone. And, yes, I had a heart filled with love. I had always followed my heart and I did it again. I did not listen to all my well-wishers, including my better half, and I resigned from my services. I had two kids to look after and care for. And we obediently did.Īfter completing 14 years of my professional stint, I decided to quit. Like any other middle-class family, this was the dictum that had to be followed. One of the few things my brother and I were instructed to follow quite early in our lives was to respect others and to be financially independent as soon as possible. Right since my childhood, we were surrounded by books. Both my parents were in the teaching profession. I was born in a humble middle-class family. Her life, her priority, her thoughts and ideas are all kids- centric. This is the love story of a mother and her two adorable kids. Was it the right way a child should have spoken? Was it the way a child should show love to her parent? Was that the right way of parenting? Did I fail in my parenting? Was this love? She did not respond and just left the room banging the door behind. I gathered my strength and reminded her that this was not the way a child was supposed to talk. Why are you sitting and reading? Go in the kitchen and prepare something,” said my 12-year-old daughter. “Mumma, you are not supposed to talk to me like this. On Valentine’s Day, we feature a curated selection of love stories that will tug at your heartstrings.) The next full moon, which falls on February 16, is all set to put under the spotlight our passions, our romantic quests. Outlook's issue revisited The Beatles’ words of wisdom: “All You Need Is Love.” What’s more, we will publish love stories all year long. Going against the grimy grain of contemporary political discourse, we have declared 2022 to be the year of love: for us, talking about love in a time of hatred is a revolutionary act. No matter what, love finds a way, almost always. If love tears us apart, it also keeps us alive. (Love is our deepest value: Love is freedom, love is salvation. |
